This city in India is quite unlike any other; Mumbai (which was previously called Bombay) is an island city. It is located on Salsette Island which sits on the Arabian Sea. With a beautiful coastline, many of Mumbai's top resorts and tourist attractions lie around its main beaches, which include both Juhu Beach and also Girgaum Chowpatty Beach.
Mumbai is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra and is also well-known as India's Hindi film and television industry called Bollywood. It is also famous for many things, including endless bazaars, colonial-style buildings, Art Deco structures and an endless selection of restaurants, often being rated as the dining capital of India. Home to about 14 million people, the city has grown dramatically in the last fifty years. The core area called the "Island City" has the most expensive real estate in all of India. As a result, the city has stretched far into the mainland, both to the north and the east, making it one of the largest urban areas in the world.
